The Hambones Music Performance at Main
The Hambones will perform a retrospective of Bob Dylan’s songwriting on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
The Hambones touch on different periods of Dylan’s staggering catalogue. Dancing is encouraged.
With a cumulative 130 years in the music business, John Kouri (Ringmaster General, lead vocalist & harmonica), Scott Milch (drums, vocals), John Pizzacarola (guitar, vocals), and Steve Soltow (bass, vocals) are The Hambones.
“Anything Goes” Long Island Craft Guild Exhibit Opening Reception at Main
All are invited to the opening reception of the Long Island Craft Guild’s exhibit, “Anything Goes” on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Lower Lobby Art Gallery of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
The Long Island Craft Guild is committed to the development of the crafts movement, and seeks to promote the exchange of information and experiences that will benefit both artists and the community. They are artists who work in clay, fiber, glass, metal, paper, wood and mixed media.
The exhibit will be on display until Dec. 12.
Dementia Cares® Part 2 at Main
Parker Jewish Institute Caregiver Support Initiative
The Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands Program will present Dementia Cares® Part 2, an education workshop on Monday, Nov. 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
This 2-part module training program was developed for families and friends that are caring for a loved one with dementia. The topics that will be discussed include: Understanding Memory Loss, Living with Dementia and Using the Cares® approach.
This program is meant to help caregivers to feel more comfortable and confident caring for their loved one. Registration is required to attend and may be completed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/caregivereducation or by calling (516) 586-1507.
They All Sang on the Corner
Join music historian Robert Cohen when he discusses the style of the vocal group harmony that became known as “doo-wop” on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
This presentation will consider doo-wop’s musical, social, cultural, and religious roots; and give patrons an opportunity to hear how this music, in its innocence and quest for harmony, conveyed the poetry of inner-city life. Examples will be given from black, white, integrated groups and from all five boroughs of New York City.
Robert Cohen’s programs grew from teaching New York City music at the New School in New York, from many years of showcasing Jewish (and some American folk and popular) music on the radio and on several original series in New York and on NPR’s “One People, Many Voices: American-Jewish Music Comes of Age” (now in the permanent collection of the Paley Center for Media in New York), and from studying Graduate Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
The Biology of Belief: Beyond Your Genes Discussion at Main
Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh will discuss scientist Bruce Lipton’s research on mind-body-spirit connection and how one’s beliefs can affect his or her biology and health on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 12:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Internet Tips and Tricks at Parkville
Join super-librarian Shuqian as she shows tips and tricks to help make internet searching life easier on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. This will be a demonstration class using a projector. Feel free to watch, listen, and ask questions.

The next Wednesday Matinee at Main is about a school in Virginia for girls during the Civil War where the young women have been sheltered from the outside world. It will be shown on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Interested patrons can get help from the GNL Tech Squad on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue, and Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park.
One can learn how to use his or her iPad or tablet, social media, Microsoft Office, smartphone apps, and more. People are welcome to bring in specific questions and issues, or just learn the basics of technology and receive one-on-one support from the library’s teen volunteers by the Reference area at the Main Library and Parkville Branch between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. For more information call 466-8055, ext. 246.
