The Great Neck Library and New York Blood Center/Long Island Blood Services will hold a Community Blood Drive on Thursday, July 19 from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Great Neck Library, Main Building, 159 Bayview Avenue, Great Neck.

Community Blood Drive at Main Library
Blood Shortage Emergency
Two Free Mets Tickets for Donors

Interested patrons can have the privilege of saving a life by donating blood at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue, Great Neck, during the New York Blood Center/Long Island Blood Services’ community blood drive on Thursday, July 19 from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m.

There is currently a blood shortage emergency. Recent national tragedies are reminders that it is imperative for NYBC to always have an adequately stocked blood supply to respond when communities are faced with patient traumas or other events that require life-saving blood products.

There is no substitute for human blood. One in three people will need blood sometime during their lives. Blood lasts only 42 days. A donation now is critically important. Close to 2,000 men, women and children in the community, including cancer, transplant and surgery patients, trauma victims, newborn babies and many others need blood transfusions each day.
All donors will receive an electronic voucher for a free pair of tickets to an upcoming New York Mets game. Vouchers will be emailed.

Donors must be between the ages of 16 and 75 to donate blood (16 years of age need parental consent, age 76 or older need a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 lbs., eat well and have plenty of fluids before donating, and no new tattoos for the past 12 months. Identification with photo or signature, or a Donor Card, will be needed.

Call (516) 466-8055, ext. 208/254 for an appointment. If the appointment time cannot be made, please come when possible. Walk-ins are welcome. If there is someone else you would like to bring along to donate, please bring them. Every donor is needed. For questions regarding medical eligibility, call 1-800-688-0900.
