Meet the Candidates Night at Main
Meet the candidates running for positions on the Library Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
This is an opportunity for community members to meet and ask questions of the candidates. The session will be moderated by the League of Women Voters as the election is contested. Take part in the future of the Library by attending this event. Questions must be submitted in writing and should address the issues. Cards for writing your questions will be given out before the session.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (1KB4K)
Beginning Oct. 2, 2018 the Great Neck Library will join the nationwide program that provides a simple, innovative yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills.
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book – any book – to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. Stop by any library location to sign up and receive a free tote to carry your library books.

Enjoy this animated film about a melting pot where animals from every environment live together, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St., New Hyde Park.
The Vic Vincent Group Performs a Tribute to the Jersey Boys Story at Main
Enjoy the Vic Vincent Group when they perform a Tribute to the Jersey Boys Story on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
This show will include the music and a discussion of the success story of four guys from New Jersey (Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) who attained world-wide fame with their unique sound throughout several decades. It will also feature a tribute to other great artists of rock & roll, doo-wop and pop beginning in the 1950s and the decades that followed.
The Vic Vincent Group’s early influences are Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Dion, Sinatra, Engelbert Humperdinck, Neil Diamond, and Johnny Cash. They play live music for all occasions.
Job Search Strategies with Karen McKenna at Station
Join Karen McKenna to learn about Job Search Strategies on Monday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road, above Best Market, Gardens at Great Neck Plaza.
This interactive program focuses on specific actions that job seekers can take to significantly improve the effectiveness of their job searches. Numerous resources will be discussed.
Participants can evaluate and implement strategies that will work best for them.

Mel Brooks: It’s GOOD to Be The King!

John Kenrick, through discussion and video clips, will present a program about Mel Brooks, once a poor kid from Brooklyn who changed television and big-screen comedy forever with his irreverent, offensive brand of humor, on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Community Rom of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Ave.
John Kenrick combines a passion for entertainment history with the practical know-how earned while working on stage productions at every level from amateur to Broadway. John gives talks on theatre and film history, has appeared in numerous documentaries, and is the author of Musicals101.com, “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Amateur Theatricals,” and the textbook “Musical Theatre: A History.”

The next Wednesday Matinee, about a woman who returns to her Orthodox Jewish community that shunned her for her attraction to a childhood friend, will be shown on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Ave.

Library patrons connected to the Internet are asked to check the website: www.cancellations.com for Library weather related closings/program cancellations.
In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings. In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. Library District residents who are connected online can be advised of weather related changes in Library hours or programs.
