Learn about strokes and stroke prevention on Monday, Aug. 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road above Best Market, Gardens at Great Neck Plaza. Ceil Sorrentino, a registered nurse of Northwell Health will cover: Facts about, the definition and symptoms of Stroke; What is F.A.S.T?; What is TIA?; Myths and facts about Stroke; Stroke Prevention; Treatments for Strokes; Types of Stroke Rehabilitation; Lifestyle changes after Stroke; Recovery Services. Ceil Sorrentino is in her 43rd year of nursing with the last 17 years as a stroke coordinator.

Join the discussion about China and America: The New Geopolitical Equation on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. and the discussion of Media and Foreign Policy at 7 p.m. in the Large Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Property Tax Exemptions Workshop at Main

The Nassau County Department of Assessment will have staff to provide individual assistance to homeowners who would like to file for property tax exemptions on-site on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

These exemptions include Veterans, Senior Citizen, Cold War Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers, Limited Income Disability, or Home Improvement exemptions. Homeowners who will be filing for a property tax exemption are encouraged to make copies of their 2017 Federal and State Income Tax Forms, Driver’s License, and any other documentation that is required prior to the workshop.

Special Board of Trustees Meeting at Parkville

The Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street, New Hyde Park, which is just off Lakeville Road. All are welcome. Confirm with the Library at (516) 466-8055 that there has been no change in meeting date, time or location.

Wednesday Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee, about a young African-American who visits his white girlfriend’s parents for the weekend and his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him, will be shown on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Summer Community Service for Teens
Volunteer this summer and make a difference for local community organizations. Earn community service by participating in craft and writing projects for a variety of interests and abilities. Your service will impact youth, families, veterans, pets, and more. Upcoming volunteer dates are Wednesdays Aug. 22 and 29. Sharing is encouraged but not required. Published author Lynda Aron has taught writing workshops and book discussion groups for the past thirty years.

In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings. In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. Library District residents who are connected online can be advised of weather related changes in Library hours or programs.
