The Nassau County Police Department reissued a report on Wednesday of an accident in which a bicyclist was struck and killed by a car on Wednesday, Oct. 2, along with photos of a similar car to that involved in the crash.

The police asked that anyone with information on the vehicle or its driver to contact the authorities.

Joseph Harrison, 64, of Williston Park was riding his bicycle southbound on Mineola Boulevard near Washington Avenue when he was hit by an unknown vehicle also traveling south at around 12 a.m., police said.

Harrison suffered a serious head injury and later died at a local hospital, police said.

Huguette Harrison, the victim’s wife, told CBS Local that her husband was “a very spiritual person and a great listener.”

In addition to being a father and grandfather, he was an environmentalist and volunteer and worked as a licensed chauffeur.

“He really cared for people,” Harrison said. “He would stop and help anybody who needed help.”

Police describe the vehicle that struck Harrison as a 2006–2008 Infiniti, four-door SUV. It is light in color, possibly silver or gray, and the front of the car is damaged, according to authorities.

The NCPD requests that anyone with information regarding the incident or the involved vehicle call Crime Stoppers at 1–800–244–TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
