As Williston Park ends its third week of “closure” it is important to keep village residents up to date on how the village is operating during this unprecedented period.

Village Hall remains closed to the public, with office staff working both from home and on a rotational basis, as needed, in Village Hall.

During “normal” work hours (8 a.m.-4 p.m.) residents are able to reach out to the Village at 516-746-2193. However, for the most part, routine business is on hold.

Residents are also able to contact the Village through emails (see web site). Important information is sent out through our notification system as needed and also placed on our web site.

For all those who have not yet registered for the notification system, you may do so, by going to our web site Village of Williston Park and registering after following the information under the E-Subscribe tab.

I encourage all to do so and encourage others you may know that are not yet signed up. In case of emergencies, the Nassau County Police Department should be contacted. Minor issues during this period should be directed to the 3rd Precinct at 516 573 6300 otherwise 911 should be contacted.

Our outside staff has been reduced by 50 percent, with employees working every other week as dictated by the governor. Our sanitation schedule has remained unchanged as of this witting. However, in order to help protect our staff, heavy and large amounts of trash should be distributed over the different pickup days, not large amounts of bulk trash being put out on one day.

Also, all garbage (household waste food products, etc.) should be put in plastic bags to help prevent lose material floating about, exposing workers to potentially hazardous materials. Routine outside work is currently on hold.

In view of the current restrictions, many of our residents are out walking, jogging, cycling, etc. It is critical for all drivers to stop at stop signs and red lights (full stop, behind the white line).

Drive more slowly, and be courteous to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Let’s not add to the current medical situation by creating avoidable accidents/injuries.

The Fire Department and especially our ERS staff have been actively involved in helping to deal with the ongoing crisis situation. The ERS has been having standby crews, when possible in order to provide ambulance service as needed.

All three chiefs have remained available and in regular contact with Nassau County in order to provide services as needed and directed. They have indicated from a Nassau County directive that:

If you suspect you have Covid-19 DON’T call 911 or go to a hospital unless severely ill.  Call your healthcare provider or 1-888-364-3065.

Many of our residents are employed in the health care and emergency response field and at this time are working long hours to help us all get this current situation. On behalf of the board and village, I want to thank these individuals and all those working on this critical issue.

During this “stay at home time,” it is a good time to bring families closer together. Normally, lives are busy and our interaction with family is limited (work, school, outside activities, etc.).

Contact family, friends, neighbors, reestablish relationships. Reach out most importantly who may be living alone. loneliness can set in very quickly. We will all get through this. Together we will make a difference!

Continue to follow these critical Guidelines: Social distancing, wash your hands, don’t touch your face.
