A little piece of Ireland is coming to the Mineola Memorial Library this weekend.

Harpers Ferry, a Long Island Irish-American folk band, will perform at the library on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The band members won’t just be playing tunes; they’ll be telling the Irish history and stories behind the songs, too, Brian Bruno, vocalist for the band, said.

The group will also throw in a few Irish words and phrases, Bruno said.

“It should be a fantastic time,” Bruno said.

The band, which formed in 2012, has seven members.

In addition to Bruno, Martin Kearns does vocals and plays guitar.

Craig Harbauer plays fiddle and banjo, Davis Douglas plays drums, Dennis O’Dowd plays bass guitar, John Pennachio plays keyboard and Greg Maloney plays bodhrán and cajon.

Bruno said Kearns brought the group together, as he’d played in various bands with all of them.

“We all come from a love of music,” Bruno said. “Different kinds and tastes were all brought together.”

Bruno, Kearns, Maloney and Pennachio live in Mineola. The other members live in other parts of the island.

Bruno said the band loves playing for the local community.

“It’s always nice to share our passion with our neighbors,” Bruno said.

In addition to their Saturday show at the library they will play on Friday at Prost Grill and Garten on Franklin Avenue in Garden City.
