The Herricks Girls Varsity Volleyball Team hosted its inaugural Future Highlander night on Oct. 3, when they invited the eighth-grade girls volleyball players to visit and watch their double-header match against Westbury High School. The objective of this opportunity was to get the younger girls excited about playing at the high school and provide them with a firsthand look at some of the skills that it takes to compete at the next level.

The varsity team had shirts made and had a serving competition as well as a trivia contest. They set a soaring example for their younger peers, taking victories in both matches with scores of 3-0 and 3-1. The team, coached by Tara Krinsky, is currently 9-1 and hoping to take the conference this year.

On Oct. 22 both the girls and boys volleyball teams will be hosting their annual Dig Pink Match to raise funds for the Side Out Foundation; a non-profit organization that aims to research and hopefully cure breast cancer. The boys team will play Garden City at 4:30 p.m. and the girls will take on Manhasset at 6:30 p.m. There will be baked goods, t-shirts and other items for sale. For more information, please visit https://giving.side-out.org/campaigns/14990#/
