A man was struck by a car while crossing Jericho Turnpike in Mineola on Thursday evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Nassau detectives said a 29-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed, was crossing north to south on Jericho Turnpike in the vicinity of Nassau Boulevard around 6 p.m. when he was hit by a 2020 Dodge pickup truck traveling eastbound.  According to a Police Department news release, the 35-year-old male driver, whose name was also not disclosed, remained at the scene of the incident.

The pedestrian suffered multiple trauma injuries to his body and was transported to a local hospital, according to the news release. Officials said the man was in critical condition.

The pickup truck that struck the pedestrian went through a brake and safety check, and the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

Efforts to reach law enforcement officials for an update on the incident and on the pedestrian who was struck were unavailing.
