The art of rappelling ropes and the methods of creating appropriate knots to ensure safety are skills that are vital to every fire department. Today firefighters have extensive rope rescue training, and many have developed it into a specialty. There are sites that offer such training, or many squads simply use the available locations in their area to train. In Mineola we have parking garages which serve as an ideal spot in the training of rappelling. This is one of the most popular trainings among the junior firefighters. A little challenging but most of them accomplish what the instructors want them to do. It was a fun day and also an important learning experience.
