Nassau County police officers arrested a 33-year-old man who allegedly robbed a woman of her car no more than 10 minutes after being released from the county’s police headquarters, police said in a release.

A 62-year-old woman, whose name was not disclosed by officials, was sitting in her 2019 blue Cadillac SUV in front of 250 Old Country Road on Dec. 9 when a man later identified as 33-year-old Patrick Blaszkiewicz approached the vehicle, police said.

Officials said Blaszkiewicz demanded the female to exit the vehicle.

As she exited, Blaszkiewicz allegedly entered the car and began driving westbound on Old Country Road.  The woman told officials Blaszkiewicz was wearing a hospital gown and blue scrub style pants, police said.

Officials said he was released from the county’s police headquarters at 1490 Franklin Ave., 10 minutes prior to the alleged incident.

Officials announced on Friday that the Garden City Police Department witnessed Blaszkiewicz driving the stolen vehicle. Police attempted to conduct a car stop, and Blaszkiewicz refused to comply with officials, according to the release.

Blaszkiewicz was involved in a minor vehicular accident while attempting to flee from the police, officials said.

Blaszkiewicz, according to the release, was charged with robbery in the second degree, grand larceny in the third and fourth degree, attempted assault upon a police officer, unlawful fleeing in the third degree, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Officials said Blaskiewicz is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in Mineola. Efforts to reach law enforcement representatives for further comment on the incident were unavailing.
