A fire on Second Street in Mineola that displaced about a dozen residents was accidental, an investigation by the Nassau County fire marshal’s office has found.
At 178 Second St., two fires took place on Jan. 14 and 15. The initial fire, which displaced the residents, destroyed the two businesses on the first floor and was fought by 100 firefighters with assistance from numerous North Shore fire departments.
According to officials, it was determined to be an accidental electrical fire. On Jan. 15, an equally intense fire rekindled from the night before, and it was determined that it was fanned by high winds before growing.
On Jan. 10, the Mineola Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on the first floor at 133 Lincoln Ave. One resident was displaced and three dogs died, officials said.
It was determined that this fire was accidental and was caused by combustible materials left on a stove.
