The Williston Park Board of Trustees voted Monday night to approve an application for an Indian restaurant on 74A Hillside Avenue.

A public hearing was held at Village Hall for an application filed by Varli DS Hospitality Inc., which is seeking to operate its first business in the village. The concern was represented by architect Jing Xie.

The group that will run the restaurant includes Ricky Singh and Varli Singh, who founded Varli Magazine, a publication about Indian food and restaurants. The magazine is part of Varli Media, a brand focused on recognizing Indian cuisine and the chefs that help make it.

The restaurant plans to be open from noon to 10 p.m., with a possibility of a short closing to shift from lunch to dinner, Xie said. The restaurant will be closed on Monday.

Renovations are planned at the Hillside Avenue location, but that was not included in the public hearing. The board said after a cursory inspection with village building inspector Kerry Collins, plans could be approved.

Food delivery services such as DoorDash and Uber Eats will be implemented for the restaurant’s opening, Xie told the board.

Trustees said their main concerns when handling restaurant applications were garbage pickup and deliveries. Ricky Singh said that deliveries will take place before noon to prevent any congestion on Hillside and will be conducted with cargo vans, not trucks.

The board unanimously approved the application. Trustee William Carr was not present.

During the following Board of Trustees meeting, Mayor Paul Ehrbar provided an update on road projects in the village.

Colonial and the first section of Cushing Avenue, from Hillside Avenue to Lafayette Street, will be paved before the winter. Work will continue in the spring, he said.

The Ragamuffin Halloween Parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.

The seventh annual 5K Williston Park Family Fun Run will be held on Nov. 27, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, after a delay last year due to COVID.
