The Williston Park Fire Department is getting a new air bottle filling station, village officials said during Monday’s work session.

It will replace a 20-year-old tank that the department plans to donate, Fire Chief John Perro said.

The department received a $60,000 grant from Nassau County Legislature Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello for the project.

The new machine is about a third of the size of the old one and will be “lightning fast at filling bottles” compared with the old machine, Perro said.

A bottle needs to be filled each time it is used at a call, he said.

Ideally, each bottle lasts about 45 minutes, though it changes person to person, Perro said.

A contingency plan is in place for the department to fill air bottles at a neighboring department if need be, Perro said. Perro added that it shouldn’t take long for the new machine to be installed.

During the work session, the village board also unanimously approved a request for a handicap parking spot to be placed outside a house on Dartmouth Street.

At the public session, Deputy Mayor Kevin Rynne reminded residents to attend the village summer concert on Friday at Kelleher Field at 7:30 p.m.

Trustee Michael Uttaro told residents the Safety Committee is looking for new members.

The committee doesn’t just discuss stop signs, Uttaro added.

Anyone interested in joining can leave a message for Uttaro at Village Hall.
