From the Desk of Paul Ehrbar: Williston Park’s annual Christmas tree lighting on Sunday

The Island Now
Village of Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar.

I hope all had a great Thanksgiving!

This Sunday, Dec. 3, the annual Christmas tree lighting will take place in the front of Village Hall.

This time-honored tradition has delighted both residents and non residents for decades. Festive songs will be performed by a number of Girl Scouts from different troops while awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus expecting to arrive by a Williston Park Fire Department truck, leading a procession of additional fire trucks.

This event will begin at 6 p.m. with Santa expecting to arrive on the scene around 6:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Kevin Rynne and the Recreation committee have arranged for an enjoyable evening.

Hot chocolate will be available for all, to help welcome in the holiday season. The Auxiliary Police along with officers from the 3rd Precinct will provide the necessary security for this fabulous event.

On behalf of the Village Board — trustees, Terry Thomman, Billy Carr and Mike Uttaro — I invite all residents, young, old and those in between to come and enjoy a festive night with family, friends, and neighbors.

On Dec. 13, the Village recycling program will begin “Single Stream Recycling.”

This new practice will allow for residents to put both paper and plastics out every Wednesday. Items will not need to be separated as this will be done at the recycling facility.

More information will be forthcoming in the upcoming Village Green.

On Monday, Dec. 4, at approximately 8:30 pm, a public discussion will take place at Village Hall regarding the village water tower.

The board has been in discussion with our engineers regarding the rehabilitation  or replacement of the water tower. Representatives from D&B Engineering will present to the board and the public on plans needed to take the necessary action regarding this facility.
