This Monday, May 28, Memorial Day, the Williston Park American Legion, Post 144 will host their traditional Memorial Day Memorial Service, followed by a parade, traveling through the village.

The service begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Post located at 730 Willis Ave.

This event will honor those members who have passed away during the past year. Keynote speaker will be Nassau County’s Presiding Officer, Richard Nicolello.

The service lasts approximately one hour and immediately following the annual parade will begin.

The parade route will start on Willis Ave, to Syracuse Street where the marchers will turn left heading east. At Broad Street the group will turn right heading south to Hillside Avenue where the route turns right heading west to Park Ave. and then north to Center Street to Willis Ave, turning right ending at Village Hall.

At this point, a short service will take place, honoring our service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.

After this short presentation, the Legionaries, parade participants, guests and spectator move on the Williston Park Fire Department where a short service will be held, recognizing those Fireman who passed away over the past year. After the service, hot dogs, soda and water will be available for both participants and spectators. I encourage all residents to line the parade route and acknowledge those participating in the parade especially the members of the Legion including mem of the Women’s Auxiliary.
