Yassin El-Ayouty, Egyptian scholar, to speak at Emanuel

Yassin El-Ayouty will be the guest in the pulpit at Temple Emanuel of Great Neck on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 7:30 p.m., offering the talk, “Using the Oneness of All Faiths as an Anti-Jihadi Weapon.”

El-Ayouty has a Ph.D. from New York University in international law and international organization (1966), and a J.D. from Cardozo School of Law (1994). A U.S. Fulbright Scholar (1952-1954), he is a recipient of the N.Y.U. Founders Day Award in addition to winning the Cardozo Faculty Award for Best Legal Writing.

A university professor since 1966, he was Distinguished Visiting Professor at Nova Law Center, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is a member of American Bars and Federation of Arab Bars, practicing litigation in America and abroad.

He served the United Nations for 32 years, retiring as a political director. He co-founded UNITAR, and drafted its Statute for UN General Assembly (1965). Dr. El-Ayouty established SUNSGLOW-Global Training in the Rule of Law in 1998, now a not-for-profit.

Presently, he is professor at Fordham University School of Law, teaching “Islamic Law and Global Security,” in addition to teaching at St. Francis College (New York City), Cairo University Law, and Focal Point in North America for Al-Azhar University (Cairo). He is a Fellow at Fordham’s Stein Center For Law and Ethics and Professor Emeritus at Stony Brook University, New York. His present focus is Islamic Law; the New Egypt; and U.S./Arab strategic relations.

Dr. El-Ayouty’s talk will be preceded by a brief service. All members of the community are invited to attend.
